Matthew 5:5\u00a0 Blessed are<\/i> the meek: for they shall inherit the earth<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It’s uncertain as to the benefit of inheriting a place that will soon burn with fervent heat (2 Pet 3:12).\u00a0Judging by the blessings of the other verses,\u00a0the general understanding is that\u00a0these blessings\u00a0are of a spiritual or heavenly\u00a0nature; they are something to look forward to in the future, both near and far.\u00a0 Theirs is the kingdom of heaven; they shall be comforted; they shall be filled; they shall obtain mercy; they shall see God; they shall be called children of God; great is your reward in heaven.\u00a0 And in the midst of such celestial, divine\u00a0gifts, one not-so-divine stands:\u00a0 They shall inherit the earth<\/em>.\u00a0 But is it any less divine?\u00a0 After all, Jesus did pray,\u00a0“Thy will be done in earth, as it is<\/i> in heaven.”\u00a0 (Mat 6:10)<\/p>\n

Now maybe Jesus is not<\/em><\/strong> talking about this earth?\u00a0 (2 Pet 3:13, Rev 21:1)\u00a0 There’s no doubt that the Word of God promises a new heaven and a new earth.\u00a0 It’s quite understandable and acceptable to believe that this new earth is the one that the meek shall inherit.\u00a0 But maybe Jesus is<\/em><\/strong> talking about this earth?<\/p>\n

Jesus said that his kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36).\u00a0 That means that his kingdom does not belong<\/em><\/strong> to the world.\u00a0 Paul said that they<\/em> are of this world, and we<\/em> are of God. (1 John 4:5,6)\u00a0 We belong<\/em><\/strong> to God, not the world.\u00a0 The kingdom, the children, and all the things of God do not belong<\/em><\/strong> to this world, but rather this world belongs<\/em><\/strong> to such. Did not Jesus say that we would reign with him?\u00a0 When?\u00a0 This is a present condition.\u00a0 Has he not raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph 2:6)?\u00a0 Now must it always follow that to be blessed is all bliss, raptures, and elation.\u00a0 To be blessed is also to bear fruit (Psalm 1)\u00a0 And to bear fruit is to bear responsibility.\u00a0 Yes, the world is ours; crucified<\/em> unto us, as Paul said.\u00a0 Yet, he adds “and I unto the world.”\u00a0 (Gal 6:14).<\/p>\n

Make no mistake, there is a connection between meekness and inheritance.\u00a0 To be meek is to be submissive, obedient, compliant, gentle and humble.\u00a0 The blessings of this world will be harvested by the meek.\u00a0 Jesus said that the harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few (Luke 10:2).\u00a0 Or shall we say that so few are meek.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
